Linen is a plant from whose stems natural fibres are derived and used in the textile industry.

Composition

Linen fibers are made of cellulose.

Production

Cultivation: Long is grown in temperate climates.
Processing: The stems of the plants are subjected to retting (soaking), minting and scratching to separate the fibers.
Spinning and weaving: Fibers are woven into threads, from which they then weave linen fabrics.

Application

Textiles: Manufacture of clothing, bedding, towels and tablecloths.
Industry: Used for the manufacture of tarpaulins, ropes and packaging materials.

Properties

Strength and durability: Linen fibers are very durable and resistant to wear.
Hygroscopic: Absorbs moisture well and dries quickly.
