Fuel oil
Description
Fuel oil is a heavy fuel oil produced during the oil refining process. It is a dark, thick liquid with a high carbon and sulphur content.
Composition
Fuel oil contains long-chain hydrocarbons, asphaltenes, tar and other heavy fractions of oil.
Properties
- Energy density: High, making fuel oil an efficient fuel for large installations.
- Solidification temperature: Varies, but usually from -10°C to +10°C, requiring heating for transportation and use in cold conditions.
- Viscosity: Very high, fuel oil is thick and heavy and its viscosity decreases with heating.
